Effects of Aging on Digestive System

Aging affects each system of the body in different ways.  Here are some main effects of aging on the digestive system:

  • Loss of teeth makes chewing difficult.
  • Less saliva.
  • Less digestive juices in stomach.
  • Intestinal muscles weaken, leading to constipation.

  • Tooth pain, loose teeth or bleeding gums.
  • Lost or broken dentures.
  • Indigestion, excess gas, bloating or nausea.
  • Constipation or diarrhea.
