Recipe: Safer Sunny-Side Up Eggs

Sunny side up eggs are often requested by elders, but because the eggs aren’t fully cooked, pose a health risk. This version uses steaming and frying to cook eggs from the top and bottom without flipping. The result is a safer sunny side up egg.

Essential Equipment

  • skillet with lid – 6 or 7 inches
  • measuring cup or small bowl
  • turner

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1   Tbsp.water
  • salt and pepper, to taste 
  • cooking spray
  1. Spray a small skillet with cooking spray and preheat over medium heat.
  2. Gently crack the egg into the skillet. When the whites turn opaque, carefully pour about 1 Tbsp. of water around the egg. Cover tightly with a lid.
  3. Cook until the egg white and yolk are set, remove the lid and let any water steam off. Season with salt and pepper.
