Recipe: Microwave Steamed Broccoli

This simple recipe is a great vegetable addition to any meal. The vibrant green color will brighten up any plate. Broccoli is very low in calories, a good source of fiber and 0 Carb Choices. The broccoli can be washed and prepped but steam just before serving for the best color and flavor. No additional cooking water needs to be added to the broccoli because it naturally very high in moisture. Use a glass, ceramic or microwave safe bowl with tight fitting lid for best results.

Essential Equipment
  • cutting board
  • paring or chef knife
  • casserole dish with lid – safe for microwave use

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch of fresh broccoli or 1 broccoli crown 
  • salt, pepper or seasonings to taste

1.       Thoroughly rinse broccoli under cool water. Drain.

2.       Separate broccoli into bite-sized florets. Reserve the broccoli stems for another use.

3.       Arrange in a microwave safe bowl and cover.

4.       Microwave on high power for 3 minutes, check for doneness and cook 1-2 minutes longer as needed.

5.       Season and serve immediately.
